TREATMENTS

Sports Massage or also commonly known as Deep Tissue Massage is focused on reducing tension throughout the body. It also improves circulation, removes toxin and waste that is sitting dormant, promotes recovery and reduces the chances of muscular injury.

Our musculoskeletal system (muscles, ligaments and tendons) can become tense, injured or be holding waste products like lactic acid after activity and need manipulation in order to restore them back to working at full function and become more efficient.

Anyone and everyone can benefit from a sports massage. No matter if you are a seasoned athlete, hard worker or just someone who needs to relax some sore muscles. Sports massage can help prepare us for an event, competition, strenuous work and much more.

So if you ever see sports massage or deep tissue massage offered, they are in fact the same thing. The idea is to get our bodies into a parasympathetic response, i.e “rest & digest”. Our body is able to recover and repair itself in this state which is mainly completed in our sleep as most of the day we cant seem to switch off from our lifestyles. Now add that with little sleep and you become a recipe for injury and discomfort.

There are different variations of sports massage:

- Maintenance massage. A regular sports massage treatment carried out by a therapist which focuses on the individuals requirements for either training maintenance, day to day lifestyle, stress reduction tool and more. It involves a range of techniques to be able to maintain or improve range of motion, promote the
recovery process, target specific muscle groups or areas in which the individual may experience frequent issues with.

- Pre and post event massage. An individual who participates in competition sports can benefit from both pre and post event treatments. Pre event will enable them to warm up and physiologically be ready for the competition. This method of treatment it much shorter than a maintenance massage and wont involve much stretching or soothing techniques but instead compliment their warm up to boost circulation, reduce muscular tension, increase secretion of fluid into the joints and mentally psych them.

- A post event treatment focuses on getting the individual calm and relaxed after an intense event and set the body up into recovery mode by reducing muscular spasms and draining metabolic build up.

- For individuals rehabilitating themselves after an injury can also use sports massage to aid in reducing discomfort and speeding up healing for both acute and chronic injuries.

Cupping Therapy is a form of alternative therapy which involves placing cups on the skin to create a vacuum to aid in improving flow of blood, QI (energy) and reduce muscular tension. It derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) where it was believed that the cups can help promote the flow of QI within our bodies and thus improve the functions of the multiple systems within. In modern day, many sports therapists use this technique to aid in an individuals recovery.

The cups can be made from various materials from glass, plastic, wood etc which are then placed onto areas of tightness on the body. A vacuum (pump) can be made from either fire cupping or manually with a pump tool which then pulls the tight muscle up into the cup and gives a deep stretch. This lengthens and increases circulation to that area. As freaky as its appearance, once the cup is removed the skin falls back into its original positioning.

Cupping has a wide range of application categories but the main usages are:
- Dry/fire cupping- Using either cotton wool set on fire within a glass cup or manually valved plastic cups, a vacuum is then created to cause the skin to rise and fill the cup as explained above. These cups are then left in place for up to 20 minutes to gain the desired effect.
- Moving/ Massage cupping- The cups are moved along the surface of the skin to help improve circulation throughout the body and also locate areas of tension.
- Wet cupping – After carrying out normal dry cupping. Light, tiny incisions on the skin are made before reapplying the cups to draw out blood and increase blood flow to that area.
- Needle Cupping- Similar to dry cupping. An acupuncture needle is applied first before the cup to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment.

Benefits of cupping Therapy:
- Reduces inflammation
- Provide nutrients and oxygen to the cells of the body
- Softens adhesions (knots)
- Lifts connective tissue to support function
- Open lymphatic node blockages
- Cleanse toxin build up
- Calms the nervous system
- Treat migraines and headache
- Treat fatigue and exhaustion
- Relieve muscular pain and discomfort

Whichever method of cupping you prefer, all significantly aid in the recovery process when complimented alongside sports massage. The only downside some individuals encounter is slight bruised colouration to the skin after treatment. The cupping technique is harmless and the marks will fade after a few days. Not all individuals will have the marks as it depends on how inflamed the area is and also how hard the cups have been applied to reach the desired effect.

Cupping Therapy

The treatment is non-invasive, safe and affordable which involves cups placed onto the skin which generate a vacuum effect to clear blockages, pressures and inflammation away from vital organs. During treatment you will receive a deep tissue massage before cupping therapy is used to maximise your recovery within 60 or 90 minute treatment.
